  • Valid passport – your passport must be valid for at least six months from the application date.

  • Additional requirements for company owners or shareholders – for digital nomads who own a business, you must submit a document that includes information about the scope of your business. If you are a shareholder, submit a document confirming the ownership of your shares in the company.

Applying for the Hungary Digital Nomad Visa

Once you have all the requirements ready, you can start with the application for the White Card or Hungary digital nomad visa. There are two parts to applying for the Hungary digital nomad visa. First is to apply for a visa from the Hungarian embassy or consulate based in your country. Once you get approved of the entry visa, you can travel to Hungary using the visa and apply for the White Card once you’re in the country. Here are the steps to guide you in applying for the digital nomad visa:

  1. Schedule an appointment with the Hungarian embassy – Get in touch with the Hungarian embassy or consulate in your country to schedule an appointment for your digital nomad visa application. You can search for them online.
  2. Download the application forms and fill out – Next, download The White Card application forms online. You will need two forms, the residence permit application form and the Appendix 17 form. Fill out the forms completely.
  3. Show up on your appointment date – Visit the embassy or consulate on your appointment date. Make sure you bring the application forms and all the required documents. Prepare yourself for the short interview.
  4. Pay the visa application fee – After the interview, pay the White Card application fee, which will cost the equivalent of $125.25.
  5. Wait for the approval – Wait for up to 30 days while they process your visa application.
  6. Travel to Hungary – When your application is approved, they will issue the entry visa. You can then travel to Hungary and use it to enter the country. Usually, they will send it by post.
  7. Apply for the White Card – Make sure you apply for the White Card within thirty days of arriving in Hungary. You can apply for a White Card from the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (NDGAP) near you. Visit the nearest office of NDGAP and bring all the documents for the application.
  8. Pay the Service Fee – After submitting your application for the White Card, pay the service fee, which should cost you around $125.55. You also need to pay for submitting your application through the online platform of NDGAP, and that’s equivalent to $77.26.
  9. Receive the White Card – Once your application is approved, they will send you your White Card via post. It will serve as your residence permit, allowing you to live as a digital nomad in Hungary.
